Mark Miller Common Sense

It seems apparent to me, that for the last two decades, townships have thrived based upon development within their own confines, without regard for the future. In order for the townships to thrive they need their people working, earning an income, and paying taxes. The developments equalled short-term income, but to sustain themselves we (all) need a tax base.

The fact that development has not been coordinated among townships, regarding highway neccessities, is quite disappoint

US 422 Corridor US 422 Corridor Master Plan Summary Report

Read the Report Here

The US 422 Master Plan has been summarized into an "executive-style" report and is now available for public comment. At the project's conclusion, Barry Seymour, DVRPC's Executive Director, suggested that the reporting document be left "open" (i.e., Draft-Final) to accompany a campaign of municipal outreach meetings to take place in the corridor during the Spring

JayP Typical PA road

Another dilapitated PA road, no surprise. Toll for a state highway? Thats a bunch of crock! That will not solve or make anything better. Look at the already exisiting PA toll roads! They're horrible compared to other states like (NJTP or OHTP). This state stinks when it comes to roads. Even 3rd world countries have better roads w/more lanes, fresh paint lines, longer exit & entry ramps and street lights to accomodate those ramps. Its a laughing, embarrasing matter. Continue

John Laury Common Sense

I visited the site today to see the progress on the 422 project as we in southern Berks county use the corridor extensively. Then I read the nonsense about how we are going to pay for it. I say no new taxes and no tolls. In case nobody's noticed, the economy's pretty bad right now. I trust the engineers who say the infrastructures are deteriorated and in need of repair, but as is so often the case, we taxpayers are left with no options but to throw more money at the need rather than use that whi… Continue

US 422 Corridor Free ride on roads must end: Maintaining the state's infrastructure is a matter of safety - and economic growth.

By Steven B. Bolt, special to the Philadelphia Inquirer Considering the recent debate about transportation funding, some may be wondering whose responsibility it is to finance our roadway and transit systems. Well, if you live in Pennsylvania and drive its highways and bridges everyday, or use some form of public transit, then it is yours! As a civil engineer in the state's transportation industry, I have an insider's view of the condi… Continue

Shayne Trimbell North Carolina Breaks Ground on New High Tech Toll Road

The US Department of Transportation posted on its official blog that North Carolina has broken ground on a new limited access toll facility that will implement high speed transponder technology, and high speed camera technology, both similar to the concepts being discussed for US 422. The project does differ from US 422 in that it is a new highway, however the technology to collect fees is very similar. Drivers will be encouraged to use a tr… Continue

Shayne Trimbell How Does This Bring Jobs?

Research Triangle, Silicone Valley, DC Beltway, US 422 Corridor. All these places have the same thing in common, they are all places international corporations might consider when locating in the United States. What separates the US 422 Corridor from the group? In one word: infrastructure. They either have it, or are willing to build it; why should the US 422 Corridor be any different? After attending the US 422 Master Plan Public Open House meetings held in June, the consistent question was, h… Continue

Shayne Trimbell Why Plan for the Future?

Over the past year the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has been working with consultant McCormick Taylor to develop a Master Plan for the US 422 Corridor. The plan is evaluating options for changes to land use practices, transportation infrastructure investments, and potential funding mechanisms for constructing the recommendations. Paramount in the plan is a need for change. By all definitions, the US 422 corridor is growing, and that growth is not expected to slow down through
