I am totally opposed to ANY form of tolls or tax increases to pay for this project. Many residents along the 422 corridor are impacted by the recession as anyone and an increase to taxes would hurt a lot of people. The typical 422 traffic patterns…

The passenger rail system would be good for the county. However it should not be paid for by a toll on Rt 422. I can forsee several things happening. 1. Tolls are collected for use of Rt 422 but the funds are stolen for use on some pork project and…

We should seek grants, of course. But tolling is a terrible idea. We should charge an impact tax on on all new residential and retail construction, which increase traffic and sprawl (however, we should not charge the tax on new offices, because thes…

What are the realistic options? Tolling is one. Commuter rail is another. Both are viable methods to help ease congestion. I'd also like to see lights on the entrance ramps, much like they have on 476 south of the Schuylkill Expy. For a start though…

Both HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) and HOT (High Occupancy Toll) lanes were evaluated as part of the R6 Extension study, available on this site, as a method to fund rail improvements. Both were determined to be cost prohibitive. Either plan still req…

They run buses now and no one rides them, Seniors can ride free and still no one rides them, so what makes them think people are going to get on trains that will not go anywhere near you work or shop. I spoke against the tolls at the Springford High…

You could put HOV lanes each direction on 422. Then you could run a load of buses back and forth in those lanes all day long for a fraction of the cost of a train. During off peak and emergency hours, those lanes benefit more than the 1.5% of the po…

US 422 is a federal aid highway and subject to the United States code which governs how money can be raised and spent on said highways. Title 23, Chapter 1, Section 129 of the United States code clearly states the "all toll revenues received from op…

You raise the gas tax. Putting a toll on 422 will not mean the money will go for repairs but to the railroads which are not even built in this country anymore. There is no way to get to any place with a train, it will run at a loss for the few who u…

I just finished digesting the Master Plan, and like Mr. Wert's comment below, cost is going to be the bigest hurdle. Light rail from Philadelphia out to Reading (a staple when I was growing up here) and the proposed Phoenixville to Paoli line would…

Mike, I commend your research on transit systems, however you are not showing the full picture. You have not included in your synopsis anything that includes increased land value in proximity to a transit system. Anecdotally I have seen land values…

Hmm, more fun facts. The city of Phoenix recently "celebrated" the launch of it's own light rail system. While most citizens were oppossed to the idea, they too formed a comission to push the agenda using the same arguments we have seen here. Let's…

Sorry, Paul, but I reject your labeling of sustainability in political terms. So, in your world continuting to purchase cheap oil from the Middle East, Venezuela, Nigeria and others is "conservative"? Sounds silly, doesn't it? So does labeling susta…

I am in the process of going through the 422 Corridor Coalition Members List. As I review each members web site, I feel more and more uncomfortable. So far, the majority of members are private firms. A good deal of consulting and engineering firms.…

It is nice to see how you present your four options in such an unbiased and balanced manner. Why not simply present the options without the editorializing to support your own agenda?

US 422 Corridor Master Plan Summary Report

Read the Report Here

The US 422 Master Plan has been summarized into an "executive-style" report and is now available for public comment. At the project's conclusion, Barry Seymour, DVRPC's Executive Director, suggested that the reporting document be left "open" (i.e., Draft-Final) to accompany a campaign of municipal outreach meetings to take place in the corridor during the Spring

Free ride on roads must end: Maintaining the state's infrastructure is a matter of safety - and economic growth.

By Steven B. Bolt, special to the Philadelphia Inquirer

Considering the recent debate about transportation funding, some may be wondering whose responsibility it is to finance our roadway and transit systems. Well, if you live in Pennsylvania and drive its highways and bridges everyday, or use some form of public transit, then it is yours!

As a civil engineer in the state's transportation industry, I have an insider's view of the condi… Continue
